Can you be friends with your clients?

Hi Reader,

There are few things I love more than a long heart-to-heart with friends.

Ever since I was a kid, twirling the phone cord around my finger into the wee hours of the night, I’ve believed nothing beats knowing my friends are there for me, and I’m there for them.

When we first started building Drio, I realized pretty quickly I wanted to bring that personal value into business.

Over 13 years later, it’s no wonder we consider so many of our clients friends. It just kind of happens when you work with us.

Not everyone wants that, and that’s okay. Some larger marketing firms and businesses prefer to keep things more transactional.

But around here, we truly believe “Friendship is the business model,” as Chris Corrigan says.

We’re there to solve a marketing problem or build a website, of course. We also want to know you. We want to understand your values and your business’s razón de ser (reason for being).

Not to mention, friendship makes the process a whole lot more fun! We get to connect on what it means to be business owners, parents, women, creatives—or Mariah Carey fans. You can’t get that with a more surface-level business relationship.

That’s why we don’t have customer ID numbers. When you need support (whether it’s five minutes or five hours), you’re not just another name in our system.

We’re always just an email or heart-to-heart phone call away.

With that in mind, coffee soon? Let’s catch up!

Hi Reader, When you look at Martha Stewart, you see someone who made cooking, homekeeping, and decorating mainstream. When you look at Michael Phelps, you see the world’s most decorated Olympian. When you look at Damon John, you see an A-list CEO and charismatic Shark Tank personality. As I listened to each of those very successful people speak at this year’s Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Summit, it was the reality of their low-lows that really stuck with me. Martha went to prison for...

Hi Reader, The first time our website server had a serious security breach (circa 2012), damage control was a nightmare. I essentially had to manually rebuild every client website. Hours and hours and hours of work… If I hadn’t done that, however, I wouldn’t have accidentally become an expert in website security. I’ve been able to apply everything I learned to every other website project, which means we’ve avoided a ton of threats. While it’s much less of an ordeal to problem-solve nowadays,...
