Monthly September Recap: United Way, Celebrations, and Looking Ahead to NACCE!

Hi Reader

September was a month full of inspiration, celebration, and exciting plans for the future at Drio. From attending empowering events like the United Way Women’s Forum to celebrating milestones with our partners and preparing for the upcoming NACCE conference, we’ve been busy connecting with incredible organizations and individuals. We're excited to share some of the highlights from this impactful month with you!

Attended United Way Women’s Forum

We had the privilege of attending the United Way Women’s Forum this month, where women from all over gathered to discuss and advocate for accessible, affordable, and high-quality childcare. The keynote speaker, Reshma Saujani (Founder of Moms First and Girls Who Code), emphasized the critical role childcare plays in our economy, stating, “Childcare isn’t just a personal problem for the mom to solve — it’s an economic issue that we need our policymakers and business leaders to take on.” The event was full of actionable ideas and left us inspired to drive real change for local families.

Celebrating 100 Years with United Way of Central Maryland

We joined the United Way of Central Maryland in celebrating their 100th anniversary in style! Hosted at Maximon on September 5, this event brought together old and new friends to celebrate Greater Baltimore’s promise and potential. With amazing food, drinks, live music, and beautiful waterfront views, it was a night to remember! Proceeds from the event will go towards their 'United For Our Futures' campaign, continuing their century-long legacy of giving back.

Cheers to 21 Years of Purple Dot Public Relations

We celebrated the 21st anniversary of our dear friend Dorothy Yeager and her remarkable company, Purple Dot Public Relations. Dorothy has spent over two decades representing some of the most exciting brands and events across Baltimore, Annapolis, Washington, DC, and beyond. From managing public relations for HersheyPark and the Maryland Irish Festival to local gems like Max’s Taphouse, Dorothy’s impact on our region’s events and businesses is truly incredible. Here’s to many more successful years for Purple Dot!

Looking Ahead: NACCE Annual Conference

We’re excited to announce that we will be attending the 2024 NACCE Annual Conference in Minneapolis, MN! The conference brings together community college professionals from across the nation to share insights and innovations in entrepreneurial mindset development. We’re looking forward to engaging in discussions about interdisciplinary collaboration in fields like STEM, Workforce Development, and Entrepreneurship. We’ll be coming back with fresh ideas to share!

Stay tuned for more updates next month!

Hi Reader, When you look at Martha Stewart, you see someone who made cooking, homekeeping, and decorating mainstream. When you look at Michael Phelps, you see the world’s most decorated Olympian. When you look at Damon John, you see an A-list CEO and charismatic Shark Tank personality. As I listened to each of those very successful people speak at this year’s Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Summit, it was the reality of their low-lows that really stuck with me. Martha went to prison for...

Hi Reader, October was one for the books! From silver wins to national stages, Hazel and Rachel have been busy creating, connecting, and celebrating. Here’s what went down this month: Drio Wins Silver for Our Work on ReBUILD Metro’s Website On October 8, we joined Baltimore’s best creative minds at The Winslow for AMA Baltimore’s 40th Annual MX Awards, a celebration of marketing that makes you go “Oh wow!” We’re thrilled to share that ReBUILD Metro’s website took home Silver, honoring work...

Hi Reader, The first time our website server had a serious security breach (circa 2012), damage control was a nightmare. I essentially had to manually rebuild every client website. Hours and hours and hours of work… If I hadn’t done that, however, I wouldn’t have accidentally become an expert in website security. I’ve been able to apply everything I learned to every other website project, which means we’ve avoided a ton of threats. While it’s much less of an ordeal to problem-solve nowadays,...
