Could your competition be your next collaborator?

Hi Reader,

“Beating the competition” is a big talking point in the marketing world.

And hey, at Drio, one of our goals is to give you a strategic website that makes choosing you a no-brainer.

That said, I don’t think “beating the competition” is the full story.

Instead of just asking “How can we beat them?” we should also consider, “How can we boost them?” How can we make each other better so it benefits all parties, including our clients?

We’ve been extra focused on forming partnerships with aligned business owners in our network lately.

For example, we’ve been working with Agency 102, a local digital marketing agency, to team up on client projects and to offer even more thorough support.

Instead of trying to lure potential clients from anyone else in the website/marketing space, we decided to find ways we can work together. Where our expertise ends, theirs begins, and vice versa.

It’s a win-win-win.

Even if someone offers the exact same service as you, you don’t have to bare your teeth and retreat. There could still be a partnership opportunity there—at least a listening ear or a second pair of eyes from someone who knows your industry.

Our network has always been the backbone of our business, but this year—with the various challenges it’s brought—is giving us even more of a reason to remember that.

There is still lots of work to go around for everyone. We’ve just got to find that work. Partnering up with fellow aligned business owners can be a great way to do so.

Here’s a challenge for the week: Try brainstorming 3-5 fellow business owners who could be good partners for you. Then why not send them a message to start the conversation?

The more we help each other when things get challenging, the more we all thrive.

Rethinking rivalry,

P.S. If you’re a potential client or a potential partner who wants to work together, we’d love to hear from you. Here are some ways we can help:

Hi Reader, Our International Women’s Soiree isn’t a big money-maker, but that was never the goal. Even though it’s always a lot of work, Hazel and I keep running the event because it keeps us connected to the bigger picture and why we started Drio in the first place. Plus, it’s a blast. Each time we run it, I can expect our wonderful keynote speakers will light us up with their words of wisdom, and that I’ll have fun connecting with new and familiar faces. Each year also always brings an...

Hi Reader, I’m about to start the last class of my MBA. It’s crazy to think that, 21 months after it all kicked off, I’ll officially be graduated in May. As I’m gearing up for the last push, I’ve been thinking about the tennis player, Mirra Andreeva. There’s this thing she does when she wins a tournament that I never see anyone else do. First, she thanks her family, coaches, and opponents. Then she thanks herself. Here’s a snippet from that speech: “I know what I have been dealing with, and I...

Hi Reader, The website world is full of jargon. If you’re trying to get a new website up and running, I don’t blame you if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Even just finding the right “type” of website team can be confusing, so I wanted to give you a little primer. Essentially, website teams usually land in one of two camps: Camp 1: Designers who build websites They typically lead with aesthetics, offer branding support, and create gorgeous-looking websites. That said, they tend to have less...
