Hi Reader, “Why prolong the inevitable?” Rachel said. It was the reality check I needed. A few weeks ago, I got a scholarship offer to go back to school for my MBA—something I’ve always wanted to do. But, like many parents, I had set that goal aside for later. I figured I should focus on seeing my kids through their own college dreams first. Plus, the program was starting in barely one month. I couldn’t help but think, Is now really the time? Rachel and I had spent the last year applying for grants and building our community. So when WBENC announced the scholarship, I decided to apply “just in case.” Then I actually got the offer. I hesitated, thinking I should wait, but then I remembered, “If you wait for perfect conditions, you’ll never get anything done.” Accepting wasn’t easy, though. I needed an affordable program, and Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) seemed perfect, but it wasn’t on the scholarship’s approved list. So, leaning on my marketing skills, I convinced the scholarship team to accept LSUS. That means it will be an affordable option for future recipients too, which is a win-win! It’s been a blur, but I’m so excited to start the LSUS Online MBA, Marketing Concentration in just a couple of weeks. 🧠 Long story short, when you put yourself into the right community ecosystems, they give back. When you don’t wait for “perfect conditions,” more opportunities open up. I can only imagine what being part of the LSUS MBA community may lead to next. Any tips for going back to school?

Hi Reader, There I was, at a coffee farm in El Salvador, communicating with a local woman through pointing and awkward attempts with my rusty high school Spanish. That woman was the mother of Gladys, one of the Professional Fellows Hazel and I hosted. We were visiting Gladys and our other fellow, Andrea, in their home countries (El Salvador and Honduras) as part of the ITD Professional Fellows program. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Both Gladys and her mom are lively and so funny....
Hi Reader, My iPhone camera roll doesn’t lie. 2024 has been full of incredible memories, gratitude, and community. I wanted to share some of the biggest “themes” we took away this year—and yes, a few of the less-than-sparkly moments too. Because let’s be real: the downs are part of the journey. They may not shine as brightly, but they’re the foundation for growth. They’re a reminder that we’re all in this together. Theme 1) The clearer your values, the clearer your impact ⭐ Over the years,...
