How to resonate with the right people

Hi Reader,

I like to think of values-based marketing as a garden.

  1. You plant the seeds
  2. You nurture them
  3. Eventually, the garden blossoms and grows
  4. Pollinators help you spread the beauty 🐝
  5. You keep nurturing

Case in point:

A few weeks back, I had a simple sales call for a website project that turned into a much larger speaking opportunity.

Like many new inquiries, this prospect wanted help with her website because her current site wasn’t resonating with her target audience. When she read through our content, she was drawn to our focus on being loud and proud about your values and social initiatives.

In her eyes, that approach took Drio from “just another web developer” to “possibly the web developer for her.” The things we stood for resonated with what she stood for. That’s our garden doing the work.

As I told her more about our approach on the call, her eyes lit up as she realized this lens was exactly what she needed to stand out.

But she didn’t just want to use this approach in her own company. She also wanted to spread the word to her community of like-minded business owners she runs. ← That’s the power of like-minded pollinators.

A couple weeks later, I spoke to her community about how to lead with diversity and bring your brand values to the surface.

In other words, one potential client became dozens of new connections.

These types of opportunities are all because we show up every month and talk about what matters most to us. ← We’ve planted the seeds and we continue to help them flourish, which attracts more of the right people.

And it’s oh-so possible for you too. Once you’ve got your brand values planted, it just takes consistent nurturing through your messaging.

Hi Reader, Our International Women’s Soiree isn’t a big money-maker, but that was never the goal. Even though it’s always a lot of work, Hazel and I keep running the event because it keeps us connected to the bigger picture and why we started Drio in the first place. Plus, it’s a blast. Each time we run it, I can expect our wonderful keynote speakers will light us up with their words of wisdom, and that I’ll have fun connecting with new and familiar faces. Each year also always brings an...

Hi Reader, I’m about to start the last class of my MBA. It’s crazy to think that, 21 months after it all kicked off, I’ll officially be graduated in May. As I’m gearing up for the last push, I’ve been thinking about the tennis player, Mirra Andreeva. There’s this thing she does when she wins a tournament that I never see anyone else do. First, she thanks her family, coaches, and opponents. Then she thanks herself. Here’s a snippet from that speech: “I know what I have been dealing with, and I...

Hi Reader, The website world is full of jargon. If you’re trying to get a new website up and running, I don’t blame you if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Even just finding the right “type” of website team can be confusing, so I wanted to give you a little primer. Essentially, website teams usually land in one of two camps: Camp 1: Designers who build websites They typically lead with aesthetics, offer branding support, and create gorgeous-looking websites. That said, they tend to have less...
