Feeling very supported right now

Hi Reader,

A garden can only grow so much without someone tending to it.

And in business, no one gets very far without internal support.

Rachel and I felt that when we were at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship conference last month.

It started when Carlene Cassidy from the Ratcliffe Foundation sponsored our booth, allowing us to promote The Blueprint, our guide to planning purposeful, profitable websites.

That alone was huge! We met so many community college educators and administrators who were interested in learning more.

Then we really “got our flowers.”

We attended Carlene’s keynote speech, and to our surprise, she gave Drio a heartfelt shout-out. Rachel and I stood and waved to the crowd. We were genuinely moved that she took the time to recognize us when we weren’t expecting it—it was a gesture that we’ll always cherish.

Throughout the conference, Carlene continued to promote our work, and the feeling was nothing short of incredible.

That stuff matters.

At Drio, we’ve received a lot of amazing internal support over the years. I’ve written about the people and communities who uplift us many times.

When we receive an outward expression of that support, it’s a touching reminder of its true impact.

You see, sometimes we really need those reminders because they encourage us to keep growing.

Our business is in a solid place now, but those expressions of support remind us to keep trying new things. To keep challenging ourselves. To keep doing good work, and to keep redefining what “good” means.

That’s why we still haven’t stopped innovating 13 years later.

All that to say, don’t underestimate the power of your kind words and connections.

And don’t forget to thank the people who are tending to your garden. 💐

We appreciate you,

P.S. Think about how you can support someone over the next few weeks. How could you acknowledge their great work and encourage them to keep growing? I dare you to act on it.

Hi Reader, I’m having an excited mom moment. My teenage son Connor is going to Germany for a 10-month exchange program. No, it’s not that I want to get rid of him. I’m excited because I know how eye-opening it can be when you get out of your comfort zone like that. My mom’s side of the family is from Germany, so he’ll connect with his heritage and learn how to speak German fluently. He’ll also probably make life-changing connections. Speaking from experience, once you find your people, you...

Hi Reader, The way I see it, there are two main “types” of entrepreneurs. The Lifers: The entrepreneurs who commit to one big idea, building and refining it for years. Decades even. The Adventurers: The entrepreneurs who thrive on change, pivots, and the thrill of starting from scratch. A recent lunch with a fellow entrepreneur put that into perspective for me. We originally met in 2022 at a conference in Philadelphia - and we realized we were from the same hometown in Virginia. A few weeks...
