Hi Reader, A garden can only grow so much without someone tending to it. And in business, no one gets very far without internal support. Rachel and I felt that when we were at the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship conference last month. It started when Carlene Cassidy from the Ratcliffe Foundation sponsored our booth, allowing us to promote The Blueprint, our guide to planning purposeful, profitable websites. That alone was huge! We met so many community college educators and administrators who were interested in learning more. Then we really “got our flowers.” We attended Carlene’s keynote speech, and to our surprise, she gave Drio a heartfelt shout-out. Rachel and I stood and waved to the crowd. We were genuinely moved that she took the time to recognize us when we weren’t expecting it—it was a gesture that we’ll always cherish. Throughout the conference, Carlene continued to promote our work, and the feeling was nothing short of incredible. That stuff matters. At Drio, we’ve received a lot of amazing internal support over the years. I’ve written about the people and communities who uplift us many times. When we receive an outward expression of that support, it’s a touching reminder of its true impact. You see, sometimes we really need those reminders because they encourage us to keep growing. Our business is in a solid place now, but those expressions of support remind us to keep trying new things. To keep challenging ourselves. To keep doing good work, and to keep redefining what “good” means. That’s why we still haven’t stopped innovating 13 years later. All that to say, don’t underestimate the power of your kind words and connections. And don’t forget to thank the people who are tending to your garden. 💐 We appreciate you,
P.S. Think about how you can support someone over the next few weeks. How could you acknowledge their great work and encourage them to keep growing? I dare you to act on it.

Hi Reader, When you look at Martha Stewart, you see someone who made cooking, homekeeping, and decorating mainstream. When you look at Michael Phelps, you see the world’s most decorated Olympian. When you look at Damon John, you see an A-list CEO and charismatic Shark Tank personality. As I listened to each of those very successful people speak at this year’s Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Summit, it was the reality of their low-lows that really stuck with me. Martha went to prison for...

Hi Reader, The first time our website server had a serious security breach (circa 2012), damage control was a nightmare. I essentially had to manually rebuild every client website. Hours and hours and hours of work… If I hadn’t done that, however, I wouldn’t have accidentally become an expert in website security. I’ve been able to apply everything I learned to every other website project, which means we’ve avoided a ton of threats. While it’s much less of an ordeal to problem-solve nowadays,...
