Hi Reader, I’m having an excited mom moment. My teenage son Connor is going to Germany for a 10-month exchange program. No, it’s not that I want to get rid of him. I’m excited because I know how eye-opening it can be when you get out of your comfort zone like that. My mom’s side of the family is from Germany, so he’ll connect with his heritage and learn how to speak German fluently. He’ll also probably make life-changing connections. Speaking from experience, once you find your people, you tend to keep finding them. The program he’s doing isn’t so different from the exchange Hazel and I did earlier this year. In case you missed it, we went to El Salvador and Honduras as part of the ITD Professional Fellows program. The connections we made through that exchange were incredible, and I know many of them will last a long time. What we’ve found—and what I’m sure Connor will find—is those types of experiences are magic for finding people who share your values. The right rooms attract other open-minded, curious individuals. The more you’re around people like that, the further your mind opens too, which leads to even more opportunities and connections. It’s the best kind of domino effect. Connor has already met fellow exchange students who share his love of history and travel—other young people who are eager to learn about different perspectives and cultures. Hopefully, that’s just the beginning. Sure, as a mom, I’m also a little bit nervous he’ll be away for so long. But I know it’s worth it. Because whether it’s a cultural exchange, a business partnership, a networking group, or a website team…when you find people who light you up, you don’t want to walk away. Your work gets more exciting. Your community gets closer. Your adventures get more plentiful. What more could a mom (or business owner) ask for? Have any words of wisdom for Connor? Let me know, and I’ll pass it along!

Hi Reader, There are few things I love more than a long heart-to-heart with friends. Ever since I was a kid, twirling the phone cord around my finger into the wee hours of the night, I’ve believed nothing beats knowing my friends are there for me, and I’m there for them. When we first started building Drio, I realized pretty quickly I wanted to bring that personal value into business. Over 13 years later, it’s no wonder we consider so many of our clients friends. It just kind of happens when...

Hi Reader, The way I see it, there are two main “types” of entrepreneurs. The Lifers: The entrepreneurs who commit to one big idea, building and refining it for years. Decades even. The Adventurers: The entrepreneurs who thrive on change, pivots, and the thrill of starting from scratch. A recent lunch with a fellow entrepreneur put that into perspective for me. We originally met in 2022 at a conference in Philadelphia - and we realized we were from the same hometown in Virginia. A few weeks...
