July was filled with connection, learning, and meaningful impact. From exchanging ideas with entrepreneurs and global leaders to launching a refreshed digital experience for a mission-driven organization and staying ahead of important website security updates, the month offered valuable opportunities to grow, collaborate, and support the communities we serve.

🚀 Learning from DC-Area Startup Founders

On July 16, Rachel attended the Korea Innovation Center Washington DC’s TeX Frontier Field Trip at the Maryland Innovation Center in Howard County.

The event brought together TeX-Corps 2026 participants and local startup founders for honest conversations about developing new technologies, building companies, and navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

Rachel heard from Abhishek Rege of Vasoptic Medical, AsrorJon Shukurov of KLEENUP, and Hector Ocasio of App Beacon. The founders shared lessons from their work across healthcare, AI, SaaS, and social impact, while participating teams also had the opportunity to pitch their ideas and receive valuable feedback.

It was a great opportunity to connect with the region’s startup community and learn from entrepreneurs working to turn innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.

🌍 Lessons from Exchange Alumni

As alumni of the U.S. Department of State’s Professional Fellows Program, Rachel and Hazel were invited to connect with fellow exchange program alumni and attend the Exchange Alumni Teach-In: Lessons Learned from the Field on July 23 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, DC.

The event featured three short sessions led by alumni of international exchange programs. Each facilitator shared lessons from their time abroad, the skills and perspectives they gained, and how they continue to apply those experiences by traveling, giving back to their communities, and learning new languages.

It was inspiring to meet alumni from other State Department programs and hear about the lasting impact these experiences have had on their personal and professional lives. Attendees also had the opportunity to exchange ideas, build new connections, and explore possibilities for future collaboration.

It was a meaningful evening of learning and networking that demonstrated how international exchange experiences can continue to create an impact long after a program ends.

✨ A Fresh Digital Chapter for Marian House

It's always especially meaningful to partner with organizations whose mission makes such a profound impact on our community.

We're grateful to have recently completed a website refresh for Marian House, a Baltimore nonprofit that has been helping women move from dependence to independence since 1982. Through safe housing, counseling, employment support, and a compassionate community, Marian House empowers women to rebuild their lives with dignity, confidence, and hope.

When we began this project, we knew our goal wasn't simply to create a more modern website. We wanted to create a digital experience that reflects the warmth, sincerity, and sense of faith that Marian House provides every day. By thoughtfully incorporating real imagery of the women, staff, and spaces that make Marian House so special, the refreshed website tells a more human story and better reflects the incredible people behind the mission.

Every design decision was made with that purpose in mind. We created a cleaner, more welcoming experience with improved content organization, intentional use of imagery and whitespace, and a modern WordPress foundation that makes it easier for the Marian House team to keep their website current. Just as importantly, we built accessibility into the experience so visitors of all abilities can more easily access the information, programs, and resources they need. Because when an organization exists to serve people, its website should be just as welcoming as the community behind it.

🔒 Staying Ahead of WordPress Security Updates

In July, WordPress issued an alert regarding a critical security vulnerability affecting its core software. The necessary security update was applied automatically to affected websites, and no action was required from our clients.

Drio actively tracks WordPress security alerts, software releases, and other important updates that could affect the websites we manage. When an issue is identified, our team reviews the available information, confirms that the appropriate updates have been applied, and monitors for any additional guidance.

This ongoing oversight helps us stay ahead of potential risks and keep our clients’ websites secure, stable, and up to date.
