Hi Reader, There are a lot of fantastic digital communities out there, but we’ve never wanted to turn Monument Women’s Creative Alliance into one. Sure, doing so would allow us to grow our membership even more. But the last thing we want is a massive group of people who would barely recognize each other at their local coffee shop. That’s why MWCA is Baltimore-based, through and through. We’ve always wanted our members to go beyond “transactional” relationships. We want people to get to know each other in a way that’s only really possible when they’re sharing a meal, sitting at the same physical table, or walking down the same street. While you certainly can develop great relationships through online platforms, it’s often trickier. So we decided to lean into local, and we’ve kept with it. Today, we have more than 400 members! Whenever we host an event, a portion of them get to bond over learning, having fun, and/or volunteering. If you’re craving more in-person connections right now, listen to that craving. Find a community in your city. Invite someone to a workshop. See what happens. While Hazel and I will always encourage you to make sure your digital home is in order (it IS 2025, after all), we’ll never tell you to forget about your “home” town. If you’re near Baltimore and you’re looking for some groups to get involved with, reply back and let me know! I know a whole bunch, and I’m happy to connect you. ⭐ Speaking of in-person connection, our International Women’s Day Soireé is coming up! The year’s theme is Accelerate Action. Our speakers will be talking about what women are doing to speed up equity and equality progress.⭐ Our International Women’s Day Soirée is open to everyone—register now to join us! Hi Reader, As soon as Rachel and I walked into the WordCamp conference in Basel, Switzerland, we spotted familiar faces from last year's event. We greeted each other with warm hugs even though it had been a year since we’d seen each other. When you think “website platform,” you might not think “cup-filling connections,” but it’s actually one of the things we’ve always loved about being a part of the WordPress world. WordPress is all about community, and it survives and thrives because of it....
Hi Reader, At the end of last month, I graduated from not one, but two programs: The Nancy Grasmick Leadership Institute’s Professional Leadership Program for Women and the CCBC Elite 10 Accelerator. It’s kind of felt like being back in college, with extracurricular activities and professional development piled on top of regular assignments. Mondays, I’d go from work to CCBC until 9 pm. Tuesdays, I’d be at Nancy Grasmick from 9-2. Meanwhile, regular business kept ticking along (not to mention...
