Hi Reader, “I’m too busy.” How often do we utter those words when an opportunity comes up? I know I’m guilty. It’s warranted sometimes. Most of us juggle family needs, health needs, and other big commitments. We can’t do everything, and we should never be expected to. But once in a while, that “thing” we’re rushing to is worth putting aside for a couple of minutes. ➡️ Case in point: I recently volunteered at my daughter’s school before starting the work day. I was supposed to stay 15 minutes but someone asked me to help for an extra 10. Let me tell you, I was eager to get into my overflowing to-do list. But, in that moment, I felt like I couldn’t walk away. After all, the woman who asked me to stay was busy too. That’s why she asked for my help! So I stayed. In talking to her, we realized we had a lot in common and that she knew people I knew growing up. I even found out her family owned a jewelry store that’s been in the community for 50 years, and I had no idea. Suddenly, we had a deeper connection than we had all school year. A few extra minutes goes a long way—sometimes thousands of miles. ➡️ That’s how our fellows, Andrea and Gladys, ended up with us too. I saw someone post on LinkedIn that she was in Honduras and I decided to message her, asking what it was all about. I could have scrolled on by, but something told me this was worth the extra couple of minutes. She returned the favor by filling me in on the Fellows Program. 🧠 It’s that curiosity that leads to opportunity. Every day, we have to negotiate with ourselves on which rabbit trails are worth following. It’s so easy to silence our curiosity when we’re rushing around. But what if we gave it a more equal seat at the time management table? What if we considered it worth our attention just as much as that tenth email in our inbox or those 15 minutes we were going to cram into a project? You never know where it might lead. Speaking of extra minutes, why not take a couple to reply back? I’d love to know where your curiosity has led you recently. Talk soon,

Hi Reader, When you look at Martha Stewart, you see someone who made cooking, homekeeping, and decorating mainstream. When you look at Michael Phelps, you see the world’s most decorated Olympian. When you look at Damon John, you see an A-list CEO and charismatic Shark Tank personality. As I listened to each of those very successful people speak at this year’s Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Summit, it was the reality of their low-lows that really stuck with me. Martha went to prison for...

Hi Reader, The first time our website server had a serious security breach (circa 2012), damage control was a nightmare. I essentially had to manually rebuild every client website. Hours and hours and hours of work… If I hadn’t done that, however, I wouldn’t have accidentally become an expert in website security. I’ve been able to apply everything I learned to every other website project, which means we’ve avoided a ton of threats. While it’s much less of an ordeal to problem-solve nowadays,...
